Cetrion
The first blade the Lin Kuei ever forged, now she forges the dead.
Cetrion is a playable fighter introduced in Mortal Kombat 11 (2019), a dark necromancer and the very first Lin Kuei cyborg. Long before the clan's modern identity was forged, she was the original warrior to submit to the cybernetic transformation, and she never fully embraced the path the clan would later follow. Instead, she turned her augmented body and forbidden knowledge toward the manipulation of death itself, commanding the dead as extensions of her will.
In the broader Mortal Kombat narrative, Cetrion serves as a bridge between the Lin Kuei's mythic origins and the necromantic horrors that haunt the tournament's darker corners. She is neither a straightforward villain nor a hero; she is a relic of a choice the clan tried to bury, and her presence in the roster reminds players that the Lin Kuei's story is far older—and far stranger—than Sub-Zero and his brothers suggest.

Lore & Background
In the deep history of the Lin Kuei, before the clan became the disciplined, ice-wielding order players recognize, there was a single warrior who first accepted the cybernetic augmentation. That warrior was Cetrion. The transformation reshaped her body, sharpened her reflexes to inhuman levels, and granted her a cold, mechanical endurance. But it also opened something else in her mind—a sensitivity to the boundary between life and death that no subsequent Lin Kuei operative ever cultivated. Where the clan saw the augmentation as a tool for combat, Cetrion saw it as a key to the dead.
Over the centuries that followed, Cetrion drifted away from the clan's rigid hierarchy. She honed her necromantic arts in isolation, learning to pull souls from the grave, to animate corpses with a flicker of stolen will, and to weave the dead into her attacks. The Lin Kuei, in their institutional memory, preferred to forget her. She was a cautionary origin, a first experiment that went beyond the parameters. Yet her influence lingered in the clan's rituals and in the whispered legends of their founding.
By the time of the Mortal Kombat 11 tournament, Cetrion re-emerged as a force in her own right. She does not fight for the clan, for Outworld, or for any single lord. She fights because death is her domain, and every fallen warrior in the tournament is a potential soldier. Her cybernetic frame hums with a cold, blue-tinged light, and the air around her carries the faint stench of turned earth and ozone.
In Their Own Story
The arena floor was still wet with someone else's blood when the lights dimmed to a sickly violet. Cetrion did not walk into the ring so much as assemble herself from the shadows, each cybernetic joint clicking into place like a lock turning. Across from her, an opponent cracked their knuckles and grinned. Cetrion tilted her head, and the grin died.
She raised one hand. The blood on the floor stopped dripping. It crawled. It pooled, thickened, and stood—two feet of crimson and bone, a shape that had been a man only moments ago. It turned its hollow eyes toward the opponent. Cetrion said nothing. She never needed to. The dead did the talking, and the dead never stopped.
Reader's Guide
Cetrion, operating from Earthrealm, fights with a style that blends cold cybernetic precision with raw necromantic power. Her attacks are methodical and surgical—each strike delivered by augmented limbs that crackle with a faint blue energy—while her necromantic abilities let her pull the dead into the fray as projectiles, shields, or temporary allies. She is a mid-range to close-range fighter who punishes hesitation by animating corpses around her opponent.
Her most iconic special moves include a necromantic grab that drags a fallen or stunned opponent into the ground and raises them as a shambling weapon, and a cybernetic flurry of rapid strikes that end with a heavy, energy-charged kick. She also possesses a projectile-based attack where she hurls a skeletal hand or a wisp of dark energy across the stage.
One of her fatalities sees her slam a defeated opponent face-first into the arena floor, then reach into the wound and pull out a tangle of dark energy and bone fragments, reassembling them into a crude skeletal puppet that she snaps in half. Another fatality involves her cybernetic arm extending and impaling the opponent, after which she draws their life force into her own frame in a slow, mechanical siphon.
Cetrion first appeared as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11 (2019). She has not been confirmed as a roster member in subsequent mainline titles as of the latest widely released games, making her a MK11-exclusive fighter for now.
Did You Know?
- Cetrion is established in canon as the very first warrior to undergo the Lin Kuei cybernetic transformation, predating Sub-Zero, Kuai Liang, and every other known Lin Kuei operative.
- Her necromantic abilities set her apart from every other Lin Kuei character; no other member of the clan is shown raising or commanding the dead.
- Cetrion is one of the few female fighters in the Mortal Kombat series whose identity is rooted in a clan's founding mythology rather than in a personal rivalry or tournament arc.
- She was introduced in Mortal Kombat 11 (2019) and has not appeared as a confirmed playable character in later mainline entries, making her a relatively rare roster addition.
